I am going to be teaching a lesson in badminton to an adapted class. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to teach it? There are students with both physical and mental disabilities. I would like to know what I could do to modify equipment/games to better fit their needs and make it easier for them to participate? thanks Dustin Layton |

Hi Dustin, I have always used balloons, just blow them up! They have more "hang time". Have fun! Stacey |

Balloons are an awesome adaptation. I would also suggest a larger racket surface to hit the balloon with, a lower net and a larger playing area. Always demonstrate just what you'd like them to do and work with them. If they have an aide with them, that's great for them to work together, if they do not, maybe bring in other partners for them to work with. It's important for them to get the feel of the motion and not worry about where the balloon goes or if they score a point or not. Hope that helps! Maureen |
