The game of goal ball is a great way to get intellectaul disabled students active in a phys. ed. class. Three players to a team with boundaries marked off with rope and tapped over so students will be able to feel where they are on the court. A ball is rolled toward the other players and the ball has bells in side of it so when it is thrown the players will be able to hear the ball coming. The point of this game is to stretch thier bodies out and stop the ball before it hits the back line. If anyone would like more information please reply and I will get back to you. Thanks |

I had the opportunity to play this game in one of my classes at Slippery Rock. It was awesome! It took athletic skill, focus, and team work. I recommend this game to not only individuals who are blind, but anyone. |

At Slippery Rock, we don't have "Adapted PE" we have "Adapted Physical Activity". This program is offered as a minor or a Masters. I'm not sure of exact numbers but I know a good portion of Phys Ed majors end up picking up the adapted minor or plan to do the masters after they graduate since it only takes a year. It really doesn't take up a lot of time or credits and it's a great experience because you end up working with clients in the majority of your classes. I realize you posted this in February but if you're still looking into it I could definately give you names of contacts in the Adapted Physical Activity department. They are all really nice and I'm sure would be more than willing to answer the rest of the questions that you have regarding the program/classes/services! |
