When it comes to Testing students, what is the best way to approach it? After deciding which tests you will use (Presidents challenge for example) is it best to conduct testing right at the beginning of the school year and then once again right at the end of the year to see improvement? |

From what my professors have told me, the Fitnessgram would be a better test to give because to can get the students a fitness report that they can see where their fitness levels stand. In regards to when to test, you should test the students at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. However, at the beginning, it is best to wait 2-3 weeks so that the students have time to prepare for the test. If they do not have time to prepare, then their scores will be lower, therefore causing discouragement.

I think that testing should be done more than once throughout the year. This will show the studetns that they are doing it to track inprovement, rather than thinking it is a waste of time. Also, I would try to incoporate one fitness test in each of my units to show students how these components relate to what they are learning. I have also been taught that the Fitnessgram is the best testing method. |

I would use Fitnessgram to test the students. Like people have said in past posts i would test my students more than once throughout the year. I would test them at the beginning and the end of the year for shore. but i would like to be able to test them in a few areas during each lession to show the importance, and make the students realize that it is important to try thier best and and get their scores raised. |

Fitnessgram would also be my choice when testing my students. In order to allow the students to practice and understand how to correctly perform the tests, they should be given two weeks at the beginning of the year before doing an initial test. Students should be tested in the middle of the year to check progress and also at the end of the year to show their overall progress for the year. |

Hi, Fitnessgram is a great test battery but their software is far from the best and reporting capability very limited. You may want to take a look FitStats Web (www.fitstatsweb.com), a 100% web-based fitness assessment software that is far more powerful and flexible than FitnessGram. It can accommodate Fitnessgram, Presidential Fitness tests and standards as well as your own custom ones. It also allows you to generate tons of custom reports for students, parents, teachers and administrators. Francois Gazzano |

I believe that Fitnessgram is a better test to administer to your students. Also I have been told that you should do pre and post testing to see changes in your student's scores. |

There are quite a lot of opinions about pres vs fitgram, but what are the reasons and facts? I started using fitnessgram only to find it too difficult for the majority of my elementary student body to do correctly. I went back to the president's challenge and found it to be changed slightly, making it a little more similar to fitnessgram, but overall easier for me to administer and for my students to master. It's tough to decide; is fitnessgram THAT much better than presidents challenge? If it is, do I take extra time that we can't afford to get my students able to correctly perform the tests? My overall feeling is that the gap between the two assessments, if there is much of any, is too insignificant. But, I know there are people out there that may have some grand insight on this that may change my mind - I just haven't read or heard it yet. As for right now, I think the Pres challenge it fitting the bill just fine. And, I saw that in 2011, they will be providing a free fitness tracking program on their website! Free is good |
