As with many people, I love listening to music when working out and engaging in physical activity. I just don't know, whether the music that I listen to would be appropriate for students. I was just wondering if anyone knows any good songs or genres of music that students would like and be motivated when listening to? |

I think working out to music is so important. Music is such a stress reliever and helps any situation to be more fun. I remember playing games inside in gym class listening to music and having a blast...yet I don't remember too many lessons when there wasn't music. In a way, I guess you can say listening to the song will trigger a memory of what you learned that day. Some good genres to listen to could be the lastest pop songs, or any dance songs with a good beat. (Be sure to preview the songs for any 'foul language') |

I think music is a great way to motivate students in PE class. I know for me personally music makes me workout harder and makes it enjoyable. Unfortunately a lot of music nowadays has a lot of foul language that needs to be monitered. |

I think music can be a great way to motivate students, but you have to be careful about what you play. So many newer songs coming out are all about inappropriate topics and contain a lot of foul language. In my PE class, they had a habit of playing songs that were slower, which made the students move slower, so it wasn't as fun. |

Music can be very enjoyable in PE classes. However, I understand how it is hard to find something decent to listen to. Everyone seems to like something different so it's hard to find a medium. For younger kids it is easier for everyone to enjoy the music but as students grow it becomes harder and harder to accomodate people. I am not teaching yet but would it be a problem if students started to bring in their own music on their MP3s and Ipods when working on weight lifting or something along the lines of that? |

In my elementary P.E program I always have music playing. Often times the tempo of the music depicts the speed the students move. When doing a warm up I have fast up beat music during my cool-down I have slower music with little to no words. I found my Music Teacher to be a great resource when looking for age-appropriate music. Also look in the PE equipment magazines they sell CD’s that have lyric safe for school even when it’s popular music. |

I feel that music is a good way to help motivate the students when working out. However it should be used at appropriate times so that classroom management time isn't increased beacause of it. Also, music should be choosen that would fit the age group and be upbeat so that it serves its purpose unless you are doing some sort of yoga and want to relax the students. |
