Although this article isn't real current, it discusses how technology can be used to reinvigorate 'waning' subjects such as music, art, and physical education. Read "Trends in Digital Video,' read information on Easy-Cut' and watch an example, and see how iMovies can be used in PE. We've all read how PE teachers can use Palm technology and pedometers, but what other ways do you use technology to keep physical education energized and exciting to kids raised in the environment of technology, who are USED to technology? With the technology 'mind set' that kids have today, what are you doing to combine these 2 subjects, which can work together to enhance each other? Please share. |

Students today certainly have a technology mind set. In my technology class we discussed the use of video cameras in class. Have a student perform a sport skill and have another student video tape them. Then, allow the students to watch the tape to see if they are performing the skill correctly as well as what changes need to be made. I think this is an idea that would be different to the students and would motivate them to do the skill correctly and participate in an active level. |

If the school has video cameras available for the students to use, the students could be divided into groups and they could make a video on a topic covered in class. The video could deal with anything related to PE or health such as a video demonstrating proper techniques of certain skills and the common errors of that skill. With health, the students could discuss the healthy food choices in the school cafeteria. They could then present the videos to their classmates. |

Even if the school only has one digital camera, the teacher could use it to take pictures of the students performing the different skills. For example, I have found out that using the burst mode is a good way to analyze technique in a given activity such a golf swing. Depending on the type of camera, it could deliver 3 or more shots in short bursts, allowing the student and teacher to see the full motion of the swing in separate frames. In this way, the student can learn how to fine-tune their technique at specific points. |

Incorporating technology into pe class is exciting for the students and can make the teachers life easier. Even a simple thing like adding appropriate music to a lesson can be fun. |
