I am an Irish student currently studying within the United States. During my first couple of weeks in University I was very shocked by the elitist attitude to all varsity sports. It seems extremely difficult to play sports at an intermediate level. This lack of opportunity must be quite disheartening for the average student. I was wondering is this "elitist" attitude present at High School level and to what extent? And finally has this effected particpation within physical education. After all, the main goal of any physical education program is participation. Any comments and suggestions would be welcomed.
