I plan to teach my class net games. I am starting with tennis. The students are 13-14 and there are 22 of them. None of the students have played tennis before. Normally these students would start playing on a full sized court with all the normal rules. I plan to use the aspects of the USTA's Quick Start tennis. This involves modified courts and balls in an attempt to improve success. Has anybody tried this aspect before and what has worked well in it for people? thanks |

I'm still in school to become a physical education teacher, so I haven't tried teaching one way vs. another, but I've played tennis since I was little. I know from that experience that the Quickstart program is usually used with younger kids. I also remember having an optional tennis unit, where we could do that or something else (I think in 9th grade) and we used regular balls/courts. However, I also know though that tennis can be very difficult to start playing. It couldn't hurt to try the Quickstart program or aspects of it, and see if they like it. If not they can switch to normal equipment. You could even make that an option from the start and maybe some students will start with the Quickstart and move to the normal equipment before the unit is over. |

Thanks Dan Mineo I will use your thoughts and advise when teaching my class. I think i will just have to adapt the equipment for the students |
