I was looking for any good take home assignments to get the students active outside of class or that will help the students reflect on what they learned in class for skill units. |

In my fitness class my professor told us a great way to get the kids involved ouside of class was to get the parents involved too. On way to do this is to print out a calender and for each day list an activity that the student and the parent can do together that involves limited equipment. then you could assign them to pick 3 out of the seven activies to do with their parents for the week and have their parents sign the calender for "proof" that they did complete the assignment! |

Maria's idea is excellent and I'm sure that there are templates out there to get you started. Some kids are raised by grandparents or an aunt/uncle or other caregivers. Make sure that your assignment gives enough latitude that allows participation by those who may not be able to be physically active. Simple activities with music are always good, because a non-participant can always count, sing along, play the music source, etc. How would you factor in inter-active video games, and what ratio do you have between indoor and outdoor activities, especially as they relate to weather? Of course California always has great weather if you take away the fires and the earthquakes, but the rest of the country may not be so fortunate. Like a PE newsletter, this is a great idea, and we should be promoting it, across the board. |
