On the track, we used to have our kids run a straight, skip one curve, run backward on a straight and do cariocas on the 2nd curve. Also put kids in small groups and have them toss a tennis ball or handball as they run. It's really good for the brain and it makes the time pass quickly. If the bleachers are solid you can do single and/or double leg jumps up as well. 3-5 reps then run 10 steps, then 3-5 reps, etc. Be very cautious about the speed with which they come down the stairs. If they come down to fast, besides the danger of falling, it puts a lot of stress on the knees. |
