Our PE department has been very inspired by the newest research on the relationship between physical activity and academic performance. Our administration is extremely supportive and allowing us to run a pilot program before school hours during the PSSA's this spring and we are incredibly excited. If we see the results that we are looking for, they are considering giving up first period next year for physical activity time and pushing the standardized testing back to periods 2,3,4. We think we can get the results we are looking for but are concerned about how much participation we will have since it is before school hours and the target audience are students in grades 7-12. We have some teachers willing to offer bonus points in core classes for consistent participation and aso have some some funding for gift cards and other prizes for a possible weekly drawing of participants. Do you have any other ideas for incentives or things that have worked for you in the past? |
