Having grown up with a learning support teacher for a mother I have some background on the no child left behind act and how it has affected her at her school. I am curious to find out how exactly it is affecting the area of physical education since most of the emphases are on reading, writing, math and science. What are you doing to save your class and your job as a Phys. Ed teacher?

NCLB is a hammer used to suck the life out
of schools. Accountablity (righwing buzzword to show how liberals are slackers) is all we hear so now TESTING is all that matters (In Fla anyway).
How am I trying to save PE. By being an advocate to anyone that will listen. By writing letters to the local papers about the need for kids to be active and how it makes them more alert in class and lets them blow off steam. By doing lots of fitness activities and then giving them the Pres Phys Fitness test as an incentive and measure of their fitness. My job was divided among two schools last year. My old job was PE everyday for every kid. Now it is 2.5 days a week. NCLB is narrow, underfunded and is killing
music and art and taking away from Phys Education.
