We have just adopted our State (Wyoming) Standards, Movement, Personal Social, Fitness plus the Health Standards. I teach at the Middle School, 6-7-8, level. I want to just give a 4-3-2-1 using our curriculum. We have a Health Teacher, and 2 PE teachers. We have quit calling it Health-PE,and now call it Wellness. What are other schools doing for grading, and how are they dealing with their Standards. Thanks for your time Jinx Tucker

Hey, I am from California and I am worried about the NCLB (no child left behind act) Do you or anyone else know how it affects PE teachers in middle school? Please help me out with any info you have!!! Thanks you! Debbie

Debbie: Currently NCLB exludes any mention of physical education. Legislation has been introduced to establish national content standards as well as a national assessment test, although I don't know which test or if they intend to create a new one. Whether or not that legislation survives is problematical. You might be able to go online and do a search for it. It would be a good idea to contact Boxer and Feinstein (I have) and your Assembly person for support. I have contacted Devin Nunes, but we are clearly on opposite ends of the political spectrum. CAHPERD's Legislative Analyst, Kathy Lynch, although her work is with Sacramento legislators, might be up to speed on the status of that legislation.
