I know from personal experience and battling Social Anxiety Disorder for most of my life now that performing in front of other students and peers can be very anxiety ridden for some kids. Of course depending on what grade you teach, most kids are very sensitive of what other people think of them and whether or not they are fitting in. For some people, like me, being put in front of an audience of peers and asked to perform is far worse than most people can ever imagine. So shouldn't kids with these anxiety problems be given more slack, because i know I wasn't given any. To even try and explain to my physical education teacher of why I didn't want to do a certain activity in front of my classmates was pointless and I received a "suck it up, you can do it." Shouldn't schools be more aware of students with different disorders, and should students still have to perform pull-ups, push-ups, and other testing activity in front of entire classes. |
