I have recently been placed into a situation during a field experience where there are few rules and consequences in place. The 7th graders that I teach struggle with the entire learning process because of the lack of structure that they are used to, and the extreme number of management problems that it creates. As a first time teacher how is the best way to start to handle this situation without desrespecting the cooperating teacher on the floor? |

Good luck with that. I would definatley talk to my mentor (directing teacher from college). You have a really difficult situation. The rules (or lack of) are now in place. You are going to have to be really tough or have something so much fun to do they will obey you just to participate. Forget about disrepecting the coop teacher. You have to get some order to teach, and remember it wont always be like this. When you start day one with your own group you can set a much better tone. good luck and keep us informed. Im sure you will get more and better advice here. I teach elementary so that is way different than middle school. I did teach middle school math. |
