I know it goes against NASPE, but this book is a good read and points out some interesting ideas realted to dodgeball and other "acceptable" sports. It has a lot of games listed within the book as well as diagrams-easy to set up and follow. It is a bit sarcastic at times but logical none the less. The best part is the section on student strategies. This guy obviously took a long time to observe how his students reacted to the game-very funny.

If interested go to Authorhouse.com and click on the bookstore. The title The Complete Book About Dodgeball.

aren't you (if you are a physical educator) slapping your profession and fellow teachers in the face by promoting a book that is focused on dodgeball and bringing it back into the classroom. i feel that as a future physical education teacher i would never revert back to senseless and stupid games that don't promote wellness, positivity in the classroom and involving the entire class; success for all!

In my opinion, dodgeball is not the way that physical education should be going. The students might have fun playing it but what are they really learning from it? They basically just throw balls at each other and try not to get hit. It may get students active but there are thousands of other ways to achieve this without having them throw balls at each other.

Who has not played dodgeball? I personally find dodgeball fun and exciting. However I do believe that dodgeball is not for everyone. The solution is to think outside the box and bring elements of dodgeball into an improved version where EVERYONE participates and enjoys it? Most sports have gone through rule changes in order to make them more fun, safe, or fast paced.
I personally do teach the game to my students with a different name and added safety rules. I can sincerely say that EVERYONE in class plays and enjoys the game.
