Looking for some advice or tips. I have MS classes of 50+ students and have half a gym. Any advice on management of student behavior or mass PE activities would be appreciated.

Wow, I thought I had it bad with 45 and an entire gym! One suggestion is to assign squads. I usually put them in alphabetical order. As for activities, fitness and activity stations may work. Is this a permanent assignment? If it is good luck and start advocating for something more manageable.

Thanks. We change semesters after break so hopefully I will be able to implement some squads and stations for some control over my new classes. I've come in mid-year and they've had a sub for 2 months and are completely off the wall. I'm already advocating for another PE teacher. I don't know how the school system can justify 50-60 students for 1 teacher.

Set up four volleyball nets in an "x" set up. Divide your 50 plus class into four groups. Each of the four groups inhabits one of four quadrants that the four nets create. Have them play "survivor volleyball". Use a large ball like a beachball. They can hit the ball any way they can. Kicking it, and hitting with the head is unacceptable. The object is to make as few mistakes as possible. Have a chalkboard handy with scorekeeper visible to all teams. Every time a mistake or missed hit occurs, that particular team is assessed one mistake marked with a tally mark on the the blackboard. The blackboard is divided into four sections, team 1, team 2, team 3, and team 4 are at the top heading. Each time a mistake is made like, messing up a serve, hitting outside the boundaries, a person hitting it two times in a row etc., that team is charged with a mistake which is marked with a tally mark under the teams assigned number. The first team to make seven mistakes sits down on the court in their assigned quadrant. Now, three teams are left. No serve or hit can go into the dead quadrant's court(s) because this is now considered a mistake. The game continues until only one team is left standing. That team is deemed the winner. No, this game doesn't reinforce proper volleyball passes, but that is not what this game is about. It's about playing a mass game with unlimited numbers of kids just having plain old good fun. Your can also throw a "monkey wrench" into the game by throwing a second ball ( preferably a slightly smaller or larger ball into the middle of the game. Now the teams must be aware of two balls going across four nets at the same time. You must referee and signal to the scorekeeper which team made a mistake so you must stay alert at all times.
Have Good Fun.
