There are multitudes of ways to do cardio training and fitness training. For fitness, station work, with lots of stations so there is minimal waiting time or groups of kids can be active at the same time. Plyometric exercises work really well both for raising heart rate and for developing leg strength both of which are crucial to improving mile/Pacer times. Play a variety of running games; Fox and Hound (sharks and minnows), Parlof relays (continuous running by team members in order for 10-15-20 minutes at a time). 100-200 meters works best since it limits waiting time. Tag games, properly constructed so that no one is actually "out" of the game. Swing/Salsa/Zumba dancing is great and gaining in popularity every day. Not to use cliches' but "Think outside the box." Assume that on Monday of next week, all of the traditional things that we've done for eons, no longer existed. What would you do?
