I've noticed when it comes to middle school students they are always a bit shy and want to stay "cool" during physical education classes. I feel like a few ice breaker games in the beginning of each new class would allow the students to feel more comfortable and get to know the other students better. Does anyone have any ideas for some physical education related ice breaker games? |

You are right sometimes it is hard to get Middle School students to open up and branch out. I don’t think they are the only ones to target though, that’s all students at one time or another. A good ice breaker to do would be the name game. Since it is a physical education class, have students get into smaller groups and introduce themselves to one another. When they are introducing themselves, have each student say their name and do a movement that would help the other students remember their names. For example, Hopping Heather and Heather would be hopping while saying, “Hi my name is Hopping Heather”. This way the students get a visual and they are able to connect a movement/ action with the person to help them remember the name. Although this may seem silly it does help students warm up and connect with one another. |

Truth,Truth,Lie is a fun game and it will help students to learn something interesting about each other. You can find an article about the game at: Icebreaker Game for Physical Education

An okay game to play is an active game of rock, paper, sissors. When a student wins they have to support the student who beat them. Eventually It will turn into a championship with all students cheering on the game. |
