My school district just purchased heart rate monitors for the middle school to use. I am thrilled by this however, my teaching partner thinks that sports skill should be the only thing taught in the middle school years. I think this is a great chance to give these kids a fitness background. Am I missing the mark or should I still be excited about my new opportunity? |

Bryan...of course you should be excited. Fitness and sports should have a good balance. Why can't the students wear them while playing "sports". Good luck!

Bryan I use heart rate monitors in my program with all of my third through fifth grade students. I use them with all of the activities we do from skills, sports, and even during challenge activities. Mention to your colleague that the heart rate monitors can be used as an additional assessment tool and that you can have a healthy balance using them while you have the students participate in the activities presented. |
