I was wondering if anyone has taught or thinks rugby would be a good thing to teach in PE class.

I think this would be a great sport to teach because your always moving. I think you could teach the fundamentals and technique, but I think for liability reasons you couldn't let the kids play or have any contact with each other.

I think rugby would be great because not a lot of people understand the game since no one learns it in PE classes. Of course it shouldn't be full contact, even touch rugby would teach the children a little bit more about the sport

I taught and played a Touch Rugby season with my 8th graders this year using the sport education model and it was a blast.

A local rugby youth coach was kind enough to teach my class for 1 period and he helped me learn how to teach all the lead ups and progressions.

I then modified the game to fit 5 V 5 on a shorter field.

I then had the students pick their team names from the top 10 ranked countries in the world rugby rankings...they never knew Tonga was a country before rugby...LOL

They also loved the feel and texture of the rugby ball...catching and running with it was a blast.

I highly recommend rugby.
