In what ways have you promoted a positive and caring classroom environment? Please tell us about it.

Promoting a positive and caring environment in a class actually begins with the teacher's personal attitude and expectation of the class. The teacher initially needs to have all the characteristics of a positive and caring personlity, before be able to derive it from the kids. The first step is to give Love and care which of course can be achieved if the teacher treats them as though they are your own kid brothers, sisters or even children

I also agree that a positive and caring classroom environment begins with the teacher. If the teacher shows respect, kindness, and fairness, the students will emulate it. Now, it may take some time, but they will. Teachers are supposed to be positive role models, so by practicing what you preach (i.e. respecting others, equipment, etc), the students will have a basis off of which they can follow. Another aspect is to show your support. If you know several of your students play sports, attend a game. Or chaperone a dance, volunteer to help a club, etc., students notice when teachers become involved outside of the classroom and they value that. The more you show them they care, the more positive their learning experience.
