COACHING: It seems that the focus on weightlifting for high school athletes consists more of the bench press, squat, and deadlift. I am curious to see if anyone out there has ever implemented a strength program for high school athletes that consists of the Olympic lifts (i.e. snatch, clean & jerk, squats, etc...) COACHING: My question is, are parents and coaches pushing the youth into games much too quick? I know I worked at a basketball camp and it was twice a week. Two weeks into the camp the kids are starting to play games before they even know how to play the game. Some of these coaches were trying to teach 1st and 2nd graders plays, and they don’t even know all the rules yet. Should we not put more on learning the game before we throw these kids into a game? ELEMENTARY: What is the best way to introduce rope jumping for grades K-2, 3-5? How about important skill cues? Thanks. Please share in the forum.
ELEMENTARY I am interested to see if anyone out there has ever implemented some kind of strength/resistance training unit into their teaching. Recently, I have been studying and putting together finding on the benefits of strength training in prepubescent and pubescent children. Feedback of any kind would be greatly appreciated. HEALTH, FITNESS, NUTRITION: What is the best formula to get an idea of heart rate max? I've heard 220-age isn't the most accurate. If you use monitors in school, what percentages do you use for zones? Thanks in advance for responses. Please share in the forum.
MIDDLE/JUNIOR HIGH PHYSICAL EDUCATION: I am a first year teacher in a Catholic school. I am the one and only PE teacher for grades K-8. The 7th and 8th grade classes are split by gender. I feel that things are going well in most of my classes except for my 8th grade boys. It is a large class of 26 boys. I struggle with many misbehavior issues (not just one but more like twenty). Our gym is the size of one basketball court so there is an issue of space restriction as well. I know that a lot of my struggle is because of my lack of experience and lack of proper classroom management.

Does anyone have any good tips for classroom management/procedures that would decrease the ocurrence of misbehavior and increase flow/productivity? Thank you so much for ANY advice that you can give me. Please share in the forum.
MIDDLE/JUNIOR HIGH PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Currently my 4th -6th graders do not change their clothes for P.E. class. They have changing rooms and are required to change their clothes in 7th-12th grade. Does anyone think that 4th grade is too young to start changing for class, or is it the right age to start taking on more responsiblity? Please share in the forum.
PHYSICAL BEST: I am a sophomore health and physical education major and am currently enrolled in my fitness education class. We just got notice that we have the opportunity to take the test to get the Physical Best Certification. Do you think it is beneficial to have that certification now, or should I wait until I am hired? Please share in the forum.
GENERAL: I am teaching recess games to elementary students in Utah. I have been trying to stick with games that are simple and require little or no equipment. The idea is for the students to be able to play these games and teach them to other students when I am no longer at their school. I need some ideas for games that can be played in the winter. Games that take into consideration slippery ice and/or wet slush. I don't want the kids to get hurt or soaking wet. Any ideas? Please share in the forum.
