The Inline Skating Program Developed for Schools by Rollerblade and NASPE
Greetings from the Rollerblade Skate in School program.
Thank you for your interest in the Skate in School program (SIS), a leading-edge physical education program for the new millenium that has been developed by Rollerblade Inc. and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE).
The enclosed materials will orient you to the way inline skating can be made available to your students through a safe, fun and developmentally sound curriculum, using state-of-the-art inline skates and protective gear. The Skate in School program has been created with you, the teacher in mind in order to make it easy to introduce to your school community. Through this program you will be providing your students with ways to stay mentally and physically fit within class using skills they can use throughout their lives.
Please call the Skate in School office at 888-758-4386 or contact us at www.skateinschool.com if you have any questions at any time as you move forward with this program. We are ready to support you as you incorporate this fantastic sport into your school PE curriculum.

Rollerblade SKATE IN SCHOOL Program
FACT SHEET
Background
The National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) in collaboration with Rollerblade Inc., developed the Skate in School Program in 1996 to help physical education programs across the country provide safe, educationally sound and affordable inline skating opportunities. Started in 1992 as a pilot program in Houstonâs Aldine School District, there are now approximately 500 Skate in School programs in schools across the country.
Purpose
* To improve in-line skating safety for children, youth and adults
* To introduce inline skating in a way which reflects developmentally appropriate physical education and the new national standards for physical education.
* To provide valuable new resources to teachers to increase participation in inline skating
Benefits
The Skate in School program supports the Healthy People 2000 objectives established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and meets the National Standards for Physical Education in school programs. In addition to being an educationally sound program, Skate in School is at the forefront of the "new PE" alternatives, which boost youth fitness, self-esteem and development of lifelong physical skills and activities.
Components
* Each skate package includes durable Rollerblade recreational skates, a Rollerblade helmet plus protective gear for knees, wrists and elbows; all designed to be used by multiple students throughout the school day.
* A NASPE-approved Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced level curriculum that stresses inline skating basics, safety and skill development.
* The school also receives information about funding, equipment preparation and organization, safety and health, skating rules, integrating instruction and co-curricular activities.
Costs
* The price of the Skate in School program is between $90 and $100 plus shipping per package. You also receive the Skate Great video.
* For an additional fee, schools have the option of hiring a Rollerblade-approved instructor to provide on-site skating instruction to teachers and/or the students, assistance with equipment set up and management or to provide other support as needed for the program.
Information on the program and ordering assistance may be obtained through the Skate in School office, 888-758-4386, or through NASPE at 800-213-7193 x461.

A MESSAGE FROM THE SK8 4 KIX SKATE SCHOOL
Our Rollerblade approved certified skate school is now offering to come to your school to teach this program, or a shortened version with the same great curriculum. This may come in handy if your PE staff is uncertain about scheduling the full 30 hours, if the fleet is to be shared between several schools, or if your teachers do not plan to be on skates. Whatever your situation, we will make it easy for you to add the fun and excitement of inline skating to your PE curriculum.
Your staff is in control of the daily schedule (we follow your bell schedule) and the teachers can assist in class, which saves on instructor fees. Some teachers use the skating hour to catch up on other tasks while we run the lessons, but we love it when teachers skate with us!
INSTRUCTION PRICING
Most schools choose to have the parents pay all or part of these instructor fees. There are federal and state grants available as well. We suggest 6-7 classes per day with a 30 student maximum.

One Certified Instructor (with teacher or aides assisting)
$2025 Five Days Instructing (about $2 per lesson per student)
