In reading All Active: 35 Inclusive
Physical Activities, I found a resource
that has the capacity to be helpful to
even the most experienced of physical
educators. This text is focused towards
elementary and adapted physical education
teachers. The information found within
this book has the purpose of providing
activities that will enhance students’
motor skills, and each activity has suggestions
and tips for adjusting the activity for
less developed students as well as for
more gifted students. This book is 81
pages long, and is a very easy read that
takes little time to extract what you
need on a daily basis. The activities
contained within this text are easy to
find, and finding a specific activity
takes as much time as looking at the activity
finder at the front of the book and flipping
the pages. With the purpose of this text
being to provide some great, easy to teach
activities that can be used with students
of all ability levels, this text does
a great job of achieving the intended
purpose.
There are several items regarding this
text that I found to be substantially
helpful for a physical educator. One such
item is that each of these activities
was included with the realization that
many physical education programs have
a limited budget. Most of these activities
require minimal costs beyond that which
most physical education programs already
possess. Another key item I have found
within this book is that the author does
a wonderful job of addressing the important
aspect of student motivation. The author
has several concepts that she has found
to be extremely helpful in motivating
students to move, such as having students
search for hidden items. A third helpful
item I have found is the organized manner
of the activity finder near the front
of the text. The vital information, such
as setup time, activity level, and skills
that are addressed, are well represented
in an easy to follow table.
Overall, this text does a great job of
achieving its goal, and as long as this
text is used to supplement your physical
education program, and not make up the
bulk of the program, I believe it will
add greatly to your class. This book can
be highly recommended for anyone wishing
to further the goal of ushering in the
concepts of the new physical education
to each and every physical education program.
I give this book a 5 star rating.
