Whether you have a refined running regime
or just manage to run for the bus!-- this
book succinctly and humourously assesses
and mocks common running situations in
short, humoured essays.
As an individual who likes the occassional
run, I find it baffling why runners put
themselves through so much pain just to
meet their personal best. This book has
certainly swayed me to some degree! It
answers the questions which cross all
of our minds:
- How do runners drink while running?
- What is the
meaning of the word 'support' in a running
competition?
- Does competitiveness
ever turn sour? Is it always about the
race?
- Do the runners
have alterior motives? (the consumption
and hoarding of memorobilia!)
However, despite this being an interesting
read, my personal favorite has to be the
realization that runners are just like
the rest of us-- they like to be surrounded
with a constant supply of doughnuts and
cookies, along with an all-you-can-eat
buffet filled with sugar saturated foods.
Now I feel a whole load better!
From the “Swarts Laws of Running”
to the “Ten Commandments of Racing,”
Swartz has the ability to incorporate
a witty sense of humor while still being
able to include interesting and useful
tips for runners of all commitment levels.
As this book is an enjoyably light read,
it not only appeals to the runner exhilarated
by exhaustion or drawn to the stench of
sweat, but also to the sloth and couch
potato. It’s a book that definitely
does not require a strenuous workout.
Enjoy!
