REVIEW
Target Audience:
The target audience for this book is elementary age children.
Content:
This book does a great job of reviewing all the different
kinds of balls used to play sports. The author describes different
sports balls, and provides examples of how they are used in
play. The book does a great job of engaging readers through
guessing games and well illustrated pictures. These guessing
games allow readers to use pictures and clues to determine
what kind of ball the author is discussing.
The picture book also incorporates different types of balls
seen outside of the sports arena. For example, the author
discusses meatballs and cannonballs. The goal of the book
appears to explain the complexity of balls, and how they are
modified and used depending on the activity.
Strengths/ Limitations:
This picture book does a great job of explaining the concept
of balls, and how they are used in sports and play. This book
would be great for physical education teachers who are looking
to explain how different types of balls serve different purposes,
depending on the sport or activity. A limitation of this book
is also one of its strengths. While the illustrations are
well done, some pages are a bit cluttered with pictures and
text. This may be distracting in some situations.

Recommendation:
I would recommend this book to parents and teachers who work
with young children and would like a book to help illustrate
various sports and the balls needed to participate in these
sports. This book would be great when trying to provide small
children with background information, in very basic terms,
about the many different sports and how they are played.
