Nutripoints

Here's a few paragraphs about the training program:

The Nutripoints system is set up to help you teach students to value foods that are "good for you"! The 3,000 commonly eaten foods have each been given a numerical value based on the nutritional value of the food.  The better the food the higher the number it's assigned.  This numerical system works
well with fun-loving kids of every age because it seems so "game-like".  To win at the game of nutrition - there are only a few simple rules. Eat from the six basic food groups described and try to get between 100 and 200 points a day (depending on your body size). There are some favorite foods that have very low points and lots with even negative point values so it gets hard to eat much junk food and still get to the daily goal of 100 points unless you eat your five fruits and vegetables.

This year at the AAHPERD national convention in San Diego, I'll be teaching a 1/2 pre-conference session on Tuesday afternoon.  The participants will experience two styles of nutrition education games using the Nutripoints system. One is a rowdy game show-style game where students become the number line at the front of the classroom and demonstrate the difference between food that are good for you and those that have very few points and very little nutritional value.  A game score card is used by everyone in the audience and there's a lot of shouting and begging the teacher for more detailed information about the foods being demonstrated.

The Nutripoints Basic Kit includes a copy of the book and a full-color poster/placemat (which shows the highest food in each of the 6 food groups on the front and the lowest on the back) and also an audio tape introduction of the system by the author, Dr. Roy Vartabedian.  The Nutripoints system was created by Dr. Vartabedian who holds advanced degrees in nutrition and preventive medicine when he was the Executive Director of the In-Residence Wellness Programs at the Cooper Clinic Aerobic Center in Dallas, Texas.

I have also published a collection of teacher's handouts and overhead transparency masters and game cards that are available in the Nutripoints Teacher's Manual.  And for those that would like to play the Nutripoints game shown at the conference it's  also available in a 120 piece game set. The Nutripoints Class Set has 15 copies of the paperback version of the book and 15 copies of the laminated poster/placemat.
