Hi to you all! I'm filling in on the interdisciplinary section this month, so please look things over and see what is useful to you, and what would be fun and beneficial to your students.

School has started, but hopefully we'll have plenty of good weather to enjoy before colder weather sets in. For that reason I've focused on providing you LOTS of great, fun games and lessons. Most all the resources listed here can be utilized indoors, but use what you can outdoors before it gets too chilly.

 Games Around the World

Traditional Children's Games from Around the World
Discover how children from Venezuela, Mexico, Korea, China, Germany, and many other countries play different versions of the same traditional games such as jump rope, marbles, tag, top spinning,
hopscotch, jacks, card games.

Down Down Down - Argentina
You start off with a tennis ball and throw the ball continuously back and forth until somebody drops the ball. When someone drops the ball you say "Down on one knee." Then say the same person drops it a second time, you say "Down on two knees." If the same person drops the ball again you say "Down on one elbow,"and then"down on two elbows," and then chin, and then you're out, but remember you have to stay in the position you're in to catch the ball and throw the ball.

Tinikling - Philippines
Tinikling is very similar to jump rope, but instead of a spinning rope, two bamboo poles are used (for pe, perhaps another kind of pole could be used). This really looks like it could be fun!

Pilolo - Ghanan
In Ghanan this name means "Time to Search For." This is a hiding, searching, and running game.

Hanetuki - Japan
Similar to badminton, but slightly different equipment. I think making the 'racket' and 'birdies' yourself would be a great art project! It would be interesting to see the variations of rackets and birdies the kids made.

Up and Down - Pakistan
A fun variation of the typical tag game. Variety keeps the game continually fresh, fun, and enjoyable.

Banyoka - Though associated with Zambia, the game was played by the Bemba tribe who lived in what is now both Zambia and the southern part of Zaire. Banyoka means "the snakes." The game probably developed from observing these creatures roaming the region.
