Since the 14th February sees Valentine's Day being celebrated around the globe, this February issue sees us sharing lessons ideas related to heart health by focusing on the importance of active lifestyles and healthy eating habits in creative and interactive ways.

When teaching heart health with elementary aged students, I like to emphasis the importance of both physical activity and healthy nutritional habits. Both activity and diet go hand in hand in achieving the balance necessary for cardiovascular health.

Lesson ideas that I have used that tie in both of these concepts that I have used include:-

There are also several websites that can help reinforce your health related fitness goals.

Healthy Fridge includes heart disease facts and several recipes. A Kid's section also provides an interactive 'Healthy Fridge Quiz'

Nutrition Explorations provides some very cool posters and several other resources which you can use to relate to heart health. You can download free reproducible colorful posters at this link.

Electric Kids provides cool interactive activities for elementary aged students. Check out this link.
